When are Tax Notices sent?
Tax Notices are generally mailed out on the last week of April.Payments made on or before May 31 will receive the 10% discount on Municipal tax only.
Tax notices have been mailed for 2017 if you have not received your tax notice by the end of May please contact the office.
What time frame do taxes cover?
Taxes cover the time period of January 1 to December 31 of the current year.
What is the tax discount schedule?
Taxes can be paid prior to receiving your tax notice and the amount paid will be based on the previous year's tax levy. The discount period:
10% if paid by May 31
June through December -0% discount
In order to receive the discount you must make payment before the final business day of the current month or if you are mailing in your payment it must be post marked prior to the final day of the month. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
When are taxes due?
Taxes are due on or before December 31 of the current tax year, after December 31 penalties will be levied on arrears. The penalty on tax arrears is 22.52% per annum for 2017.
Assessment Notices are only mailed when there has been a change to your assessment, generally every four years, unless you have changes to your assessment in the time between the province wide reassessments. The next re-assessment year is 2021. Assessment notices for 2017 have been mailed.
What is the mill rate for 2016?
The municipal mill rate for 2016 is set at 7.25 mills
The Educational mill rates are as follows: residential 4.12 commercial 6.27
What is the Minimum Tax?, How is it applied? What does the minimum tax pay for?
The minimum tax is $750.00; it is applied to all land within the Village, commercial and residential.
The minimum tax was put in place to evenly spread the costs of essential services, essential levies, maintenance and administrative costs, including creating a Capital Infrastructure Fund.
What does it mean if I have a negative sign after the TOTAL TAXES OWING on my Tax Notice?
The negative sign after the amount means that you have a credit on your account and do not owe any taxes for the current year. This may be because you have prepaid your taxes in January and have slightly overpaid.
